day 9 [the insight others provide]

Sen(i)or Selfie

Sometimes we need to change our viewpoint to get a better read on life.

Tonight Geoff and I drove out to the Portland International Airport for our date night...and then we spent it at IKEA. Nothing says awesome marriage like sharing Swedish meatballs and picking out the perfect new set of white coffee mugs! Seriously. (Grin.)

We had a great night, once we got out the door. I had yet another run-in with one of my kiddos. The kind that makes a mom's blood pressure and stress level rise. The instigator? How to finish off the meal I had started earlier in the afternoon. (Sigh.)

day 8 [don't quit]

Policeman's Creek Boardwalk

When you want to quit, take the next step forward.

Once again, it's after midnight and the thought of putting pen to paper fingers to keyboard made me want to quit. 7 days of writing with another 24 left and I was ready to throw in the towel. At least for tonight. It's just one day, right? But much harder would it be to write tomorrow?

So, here I am, with my husband sound asleep next to me and my computer warning me that my battery has 14% left...pondering life, goals, and lack of motivation.

Why do we quit? To continue reading this post, please visit me at my new website by clicking here.

Wherever you find yourself today, may you find the courage to stay in the game. Don't quit.

Keep pressing into your hopes and dreams and KEEP LIVING A BLESSED LIFE!

day 7 ["but I don't feel like it!"]

Rain OR Shine

Today was "one of those days." Surgically induced menopause will do that to you, I suppose. Especially when your naturopathic doctor is adjusting your hormones.

I was crunchy with all three of my kids. Not my norm. I've apologized to all three of them, but still one relationship is feeling strained. I hate that. (Frown.)

Thank you for reading and following along, Friend!

I pray your day is going well.

Keep doing those things you need to (even if you don't want to) and KEEP LIVING A BLESSED LIFE!

day 6 [writing with vulnerability]

Post Alley Graffiti

"Just because someone isn't willing or able to love us,
doesn't mean that we are unlovable."
Rising Strong by Brené Brown

I love Brené Brown. I'm currently working through an online journaling class that accompanies her book The Gifts of Imperfection. I'm also listening to the Audible version of Rising Strong.

Brené describes herself as a storyteller and researcher. A great combination. Especially when so many of her stories are firsthand experiences.

day 5 [i'm in awe of you]

Sunset Sanity

"I'm in awe of You.
I'm in awe of You.
Where Your love ran red,
And my sin washed white.
I owe it all to You.
I owe it all to You.

day 4 [sunday rest]

"Rest and be thankful."
~ William Wordsworth

I took a two-hour nap today as my sweet husband chopped and prepped veggies in the kitchen, filling two crockpots of chicken and rice soup.

day 3 [tapping into deep pain]

"It requires tremendous courage to be curious
about our pain and lean into it."
~Brené Brown

Yesterday, I was on the phone with my husband, when Chelsea's text messages came through about the threat of a gun on campus. He had called me during a rare break in his meeting schedule at work in response to a text I had just sent him. All I said was "hi." and he knew I needed to talk. With tears streaming down my face, I shared what had just happened.
While I was waiting for my youngest to finish her math assignment, I was casually thumbing through Instagram.

day 2 [guns at school]

Flag on Main Street

Today was a BIG-thing kind of day. My head is still spinning.

In the wake of the yesterday's news of the tragic shootings in Roseburg, I received a series of frantic text messages from my daughter who is a senior in high school this year.

"We are in lockdown. I'm safe."

"It might be a drill but I'm not sure"

"There are police here, so I think it's real"

"We've been in here for awhile"

"Mom"

Grace & peace,

31 days of writing [joining the conversation]

franklin, tennessee

Sometimes the best way to get out of a rut is to change our perspective.

I keep promising myself (and my readers) that I will start writing more consistently. And, truly, that is my heart's desire. But the next thing I know, life happens. Big things. Little things. Life. And, I find myself introverting (new word!) and needing to process life. And so I do...and my writing stops. Sigh.

Part of my 'introverting' is because so many of my thoughts and feelings seem to go against the grain—against political/faith-correctness. And, so, I clam up and try to whitewash my ideas in hopes they will be [more] reader-friendly.

But, here's the rub, I miss writing...to finish reading this post, please visit me at my new website.

Keep pressing into God and KEEP LIVING A BLESSED LIFE!
